Accreditation Process

Studying

Accreditation of a course by SAB gives assurance to trainees, their employers and the Home Office that the course provides a level of instruction and subsequent assessment at the theoretical and practical level appropriate for application to the Home Office for a Personal or Project Licence.

Successful completion by a trainee of a course accredited by SAB will be followed by the issue of a certificate signed by the course provider and the SAB Company Secretary, which will enable the trainee to apply for a Personal or Project Licence.

The accreditation process is as follows:

After requesting accreditation, the course provider will complete an application for accreditation, which will outline the content of the course and the mode of instruction i.e. attended, e-learning, online delivery or a combination.

This will be submitted to SAB together with the written and illustrative material provided for the trainees and access to online material.

New course providers will also need to complete a checklist for trainers.  This collects generic information, is reviewed annually and resubmitted every five years.

At the first available opportunity, a Board member will attend as an observer and evaluate all aspects of the course, following an agreed accreditation protocol.  Depending on the mode of delivery of the course, visits may be done face to face, via Zoom or similar for live online courses or fully online for self paced e-learning courses.

The assessor will complete an accreditor report which will be circulated to the Board and providing the report is satisfactory, or after required modifications have been implemented, accreditation will be confirmed.

Accreditation will last for five years.

During this period an interim visit will be carried out, two to three years after accreditation, to ensure the course continues to offer training of the required standard.

Feedback will always be sent thereafter in writing.  If accreditation is refused or current accreditation is rescinded, the Course Provider will receive an explanation in writing.
