Welcome to
The Scottish Accreditation Board

The Board was established in 2004, initially as a Steering Group and then formally as a Board following successful application to the Home Office Animal Procedures Committee (APC). The APC has since been superseded by the Animals in Science Committee (ASC)
The SAB members had typically been involved in university research and lecturing, as holders of project and personal licences under Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), and as teachers experienced in providing licensee training.
As a condition of appointment as an accreditation body, the APC stipulated that SAB should have no direct links with trainers, and therefore no current trainers or training organisations are members of the Board.
SAB is a company limited by guarantee with Companies House for the protection of the Board members and is a registered charity with the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).The Board members have recognised expertise in licensee training and/or work of relevance to ASPA.

The main function of SAB is to accredit courses provided by training organisations towards the certification necessary for application for personal and project licences under ASPA.
Such courses are module-based and designed to meet the formal training requirements described in the 'Guidance for training and continuous professional development under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986' published in December 2023.
